There is nothing quite like the thrill of tracking your own homegrown fruit, and my current prize possession, an MD2 pineapple plan is putting on an absolute show. Known globally for its incredible sweetness and golden flesh, watching this premium variety develop right in the backyard has been a fascinating masterclass in plant biology.
Here is how the growth journey is progressing:
🌸 May 6, 2026: The Crimson Emergence
The magic officially began just over six weeks ago. On the morning of May 6, the central core of the plant shifted, and the initial inflorescence (the baby fruit bud) emerged. At this stage, the tiny pineapple looked like a vibrant, bright red cone nestled deep within the crown of spiky leaves. That striking red coloration is nature’s way of protecting the delicate, young plant tissue from harsh morning sunlight while the tiny flowers inside begin to develop.
🍍 June 22, 2026: The Great Morning Transformation
Fast forward to yesterday morning's inspection, and the changes are absolutely dramatic:
●The Red is Gone: The distinct crimson blush has completely faded away, replaced by a robust, deep matte green across the individual fruitlets (the "eyes" of the pineapple). This color change marks a major milestone: the flowering phase is complete, and the fruit is now heavily producing chlorophyll to maximize energy absorption.
●A Massive Size Surge: The pineapple has officially entered its bulk growth phase! It is visibly larger, heavier, and expanding outward as it hoards sugars. The individual geometric eyes are flattening and swelling, filling out the classic cylindrical shape that the MD2 variety is famous for.
We are officially on the countdown to a golden, sweet harvest!
