🥚 Morning Meal Prep: Egg Sandwiches & Accidental Generosity

This was my cozy morning routine on 24 February 2025, when I prepared a quick and satisfying breakfast. Which is homemade egg sandwiches and a rich cup of DIY coffee with cocoa powder.

🍳 The Process:

I started by washing 5 eggs to steam them into hard-boiled perfection. Once peeled, the total weight of 4 eggs came to 202.4 grams (yes, I measured it!).
Self made coffee drink that I add cocoa powder.
The weight of 4 hard boiled eggs.
I then mixed in 35.4 grams of Thousand Island sauce for a creamy, tangy twist.
While there was an online discussion happening next door in the lab, I quietly mashed the eggs outside the VECAD pantry. As I do not want to cause any disruption.
🥪 The Egg Sandwich Outcome:

The sandwiches turned out wonderfully. Soft, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. But here’s the funny part: I had planned to eat just two sandwiches. But accidentally ate three! I blame multitasking and hunger, the curse of eating while busy.

I did manage to share one with a fellow PhD student, and the remaining two were eagerly accepted by a colleague whose lunch order had been mixed up (he ordered chicken rice but got nasi ayam penyet instead).

☕ Final Thoughts:

This breakfast was unexpectedly fulfilling, not just for me but for the people around me too. And it led to a spontaneous tea break later when we returned to the shop to fix the lunch order!

Until then, may your mornings be filled with simple joys, shared food, and egg sandwiches worth waking up for.

Nasi Lemak from Pasar Taman Universiti – Finally Got the Real Shot!

 19 June 2025, Morning Update

Snapped these pictures this morning. A freshly packed nasi lemak from Pasar Taman Universiti. I had been meaning to do this ever since a friend asked me about it two days ago. I tried searching online, but the photos I found just didn’t meet my standards. They are blurry, unclear, and definitely not the kind of shots that do justice to the real thing.

So, I decided to head out and get my own. There’s something satisfying about capturing the actual product. From the neatly wrapped packaging to the delicious sambal peeking through. Now I finally have the photos that truly show what makes this local favourite special.

Will be posting more soon if I get my hands on different variations. Until then, here’s to all the nasi lemak lovers out there. Nothing beats the real thing!

The look of food that I consume during a very long and hectic day

This is taken on the morning of 21 February 2025.
I have self peeled and sliced milk mango (pelam susu) and chocolate muffin.
My lunch food.
Initially I wanted to make egg sandwich. However I am too hungry to make it. Which is why I decided to eat chicken Maggie first.
The look of eaten chicken Maggie before lunch meal. Since my lunch companion reply late. I just eat to avoid gastric.
I noticed that the steamed eggs left 4 from the initial 7. Means my lab mate eat 3 eggs with his Maggie. Fortunately I follow my gut feeling to steam 7 eggs instead of only 4.
The initial process of selecting 7 eggs.
My asam boi drink around 10 pm. Since I am feeling very parched.
My sunquick drink around 8 pm.
My tea break of rojak tauhu bakar.
For me it is crucial to take lots of fruits during day of heavy work load. It helps me to stay alert and fresh throughout the day.
Until then, take a good care of yourself when doing work until late night.

My simple breakfast of steamed corn cob

This is taken on the morning of 22 November 2024. Where I am blessed to be able to have a simple breakfast. Consists of steamed corn cob paired with black tea.
It was simple yet fulfilling breakfast.
This time, I just put 11.7 gm loose black tea in my flask. Then I add 330 ml hot boiled water. Which I then put on the lid to the flask. To leave the black tea to brew inside it with the heat from the water.
As for know, my stomach only able to tolerate black tea, green tea, pu er tea, jasmine tea and oolong tea. But no to the tea sold at restaurants. As it makes me bloating. Basically now I only drink the tea that I self brew and make. Better safe than never. Lesson learned well. For me it is a good thing being observant to my body reaction on what I consume. Since what my body can process is different from others. Live and learn.
Until then, have fun enjoying good steamed corn cob.

Still glad the food still remains tasty.
The nan cheese bread was soft. The tandoori chicken also soft and juicy. It was a vacation to elderly teeth.

The look of the peeled roasted pine nuts

This is taken on the noon of 23 January 2024. Where I managed to peeled open the hard shell of roasted pine nuts.

It was given to my boss by his Chinese Master student. After she is back from her home town in China. It taste quite rich, a bit of fatty side. It still good. Just that the effort is more to eat it. I used the available tool in the lab to peel open the hard shell of this pine nuts. Since no nut opener available.
