I am in Pahang from this Monday to be ready for my Master progress presentation on Tuesday morning. I am already unwell due to fatigue. And get mc from doctor after my presentation finish around 10 am. I did notice the water taste funny. But ignore it since thought due to my sore throat effect. Then, I happen to know that actually the water here contains seawater on Thursday. When I am buying breakfast in Mechanical Faculty told by the cafe owner. No wonder I feel very flat out even after consume medicine prescribe by doctor. Cause I have been drinking seawater for the past 5 days. There are also no announcement at all about this matter in the campus itself.
Plus, one of my colleague do feel strained tendon in waist area in the afternoon of Friday. Where my colleague just reach Pekan night of Thursday. And my colleague have stone kidney history some more. That shows how bad the effect is differently in every person. Try to imagine what would happen to those who are already in dialysis stage. Or to those who are pregnant. What could happen to the kidney of the unborn/fetus.
Last night, I am already experiencing nausea, dizziness and cramp.
Below is the list of symtomps when you consume seawater.
1) from http://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/what-if/what-if-you-drink-saltwater1.htm
If you're consuming seawater, the results of osmosis are spectacularly disastrous. Remember the salinity of seawater is almost four times that of our bodily fluids. If gone unchecked, the net transfer of water from the inside of your cells to the outside will cause the cells to shrink considerably -- and shrinkage is never good.
The body tries to compensate for fluid loss by increasing the heart rate and constricting blood vessels to maintain blood pressure and flow to vital organs. You're also most likely to feel nausea, weakness and even delirium. As you become more dehydrated, the coping mechanism fails. If you still don't drink any water to reverse the effects of excess sodium, the brain and other organs receive less blood, leading to coma, organ failure and eventually death.
2) from http://www.livestrong.com/article/156036-what-are-the-side-effects-of-drinking-sea-water/
Drinking saltwater will cause a number of early side effects as you get dehydrated. Dry mouth and rapid heartbeat are followed by low blood pressure, headaches and dizziness. Lethargy and confusion will eventually start to set in. Depending on how much sea water you had to drink and whether you’re now drinking fresh water to eliminate the effects, you can also experience blood in the stool or vomit, loss of appetite and unconsciousness,

Studies show that consuming too much salt causes your body to expel more calcium through urine, according to the Linus Pauling Institute. Your bones need this calcium, and thus may become weaker over time. You may become more vulnerable to osteoporosis, a condition in which bones grow brittle and more prone to fracture. Increased urinary calcium may also lead to kidney stones, a condition in which hard calcium masses form in the kidneys. When these stones get stuck in the urinary tract, they can cause bleeding and severe pain, and may block the flow of urine.
Basically, I could die in my trip here this time. My condition would be worse if I do not know about this from the cafe owner. I experiencing dizziness as I fell part of my eyes to top of my teeth like in vibrating motion. I have consume Misai Kucing tea last night and lots of mineral water. Now feel slightly better.
My friend do nag me for not drinking mineral water. Well, being frugal. I normally just boil water directly from tap water for fast drink access.
And try to imagine if there is a bauxite trace in the water that consist of seawater. Man, that would be really bad.
What I am really regret is no announcement at all regarding this matter. Only this kind of announcement were put in the UMP hostel facebook. And why the authority been keeping this quite when it is a serious issue that involve matter of life and death.
Moral of the story, do be alert with your surrounding. Make sure of it although you are having sore throat. Never ever assume. Cause it will definitely causing your life at stake.
